Bees play a significant role in the pollination of vital food crops, but unfortunately one third of our bees species are threatened with extinction in Ireland. This is due to the reduction in the flowers they eat and the places where they can rest safely to pollinate. To help protect our bees, Gaisce asked people across Ireland to plant a pollinator friendly bulb, and St. Kevin`s responded. On Thursday, our Transition Years planted Muscari Armeniacum, also known as Grape Hyacinth along the entrance to our school carpark. We look forward to these violet-blue egg-shaped flowers, blooming between March and April.
