Nana got me this diary for going back to school. She said she had a diary when she was my age and she still has it and reads it to us sometimes and said I can do the same when I have grandkids, which'll be reeeeeeally long away

My day was bad :( My older sister Hope called me dumb after I called her gross vampire show bad. Then I punched her and she kicked me now Mammy's mad at me. I feel better now though cause Benson our dog cheered me up. I love Benson

I couldn't sleep last night cause Benson was in my room barking and I looked out of the window and saw someone standing in the trees. I checked later too and they was still there. I'm gonna leave a blanket and my Daddy's boots out for them tonight cause it was snowing. There was bunches of snowflakes on my window it was crazy. I'm gonna leave out food too

We haven't found Benson yet and Hope is a bully she told me to suck it up cause life is not nice sometimes and I wanted to punch her but I'm too sad to and I didn't see Kenson last night. I left a note out last night asking Kenson to bring Benson back to me so they might be looking for him!

Hello Kitty!!
I keep hearing walking on the roof and I think it's Santa. There's a weird smell in the attic and Mammy and Daddy won't let me in there. Maybe it's a dead bat cause we had a bat in there before and Mammy said that we should spend Christmas at Nana's house this year and I don't wanna do that in case Benson comes back on Christmas so unless we find him before then I'm not going >:(

Still no Benson and I haven't seen Kenson either I'm sad :( There's more walking on the roof though I think Santa is checking our house a lot! I even heard him come in and open my door and Mammy said that you had to be asleep when he's here so I was so so quiet and didn't make a sound with the blanket over my head and he left. I think I'm on the nice list :)

I saw Kenson today in my window he came back he was beside the shed and I'm scared of him now. His teeth are tiny and his eyes are too big and he doesn't have hair. He didn't have clothes either and he was super white but he had ketchup all over his face and chest. I don't like Kenson. But if he brings Benson back I'll be super happy!!

Hi Kitty!!!
It's night time!!! It's Christmas Eve!!!!!! I just got woke up by Santa walking around in the kitchen and I think Mammy and Daddy went down to him. You can't go down to Santa when he's giving you presents or else you get punished! That's what Mammy told me!! She's going against her own rules it's crazy. I definitely think there getting punished down there cause I hear them both screaming I wonder what Santa's doing? I can't check though or else I'll get punished too!! :(

Hey Kitty!!!
Santa just came in to check on me and I was super duper quiet and didn't move under my blanket and he stayed for a while to make sure I was asleep and then he left!! I waited really really long after that then cause I wanted to go check on Mammy and Daddy and I went to there room and I whispered to them but they didn't answer. They were in deeeeep sleep! I didn't turn the light on though cause Mammy doesn't like when I do but they looked wet. I think they'll need a shower later. Then I went back to my room to tell you!!

Silent Fright is a series of short diary entries composed by a fictional 7-year-old girl by the name of Sophie. This is why her grammar or spelling are either informal or incorrect in most entries. The entries she writes to “kitty” slowly become more worrying as time goes on; she saw something outside of her house throughout all of December but doesn’t see the danger in it, so doesn’t treat it as danger. Childhood beliefs bled through the naivety of youth placed in a situation that blares alarm bells in any teenager or adult’s mind is what I wanted to create. It’s unnerving.
