Today, our Transition Year students hosted a Statistics Exhibition. On display were statistics posters that they entered in to the John Hooper Medal for Statistics Competition. Since December, the TYs have been using statistical analysis to explore topics in Maths class. They chose topics such as the reading habits of students, whether the pandemic has impacted our exercise regime and sporting opportunities, use of the school canteen and film preferences of students in our school, to name but a few.
This event provided an excellent learning opportunity for our TYs and the visitors alike. The TY students were engaging, knowledgeable and confident in their subject matter. While the First and Second year students visiting were given the opportunity to hear about the work involved in a statistical investigation. This experience will be invaluable to them as they prepare for their Maths CBAs in the coming years.
Well done to our prize winners on the day. With such high standards of posters, exhibition displays and presentations it was very difficult to choose the winners. Emma Moore and Lauren Butler won best overall poster for their poster on film and movies. Anna Moran, Ellie McGrane and Lily O’Shaughnessy won best exhibit for their project on the impact of music on our lives. The best presenter awards went to two groups; Eimear Lawler and Hazel Lawlor for their poster on learning digitally Vs. learning traditionally and Simon Barrett, Ciaran Traynor and Feilim Lynch Ward for their poster on whether phones should be allowed in school.
Well done to all involved!
